Theatrical Marketing/Communications Intern

Skylight is committed to discovering new and exciting work, and to developing and producing relevant stories for today’s audience while nurturing the people that create them. Known for quality productions and breadth of material, plays from our INKubator development program have played nationally and moved to Equity contract. Other programs provide mentoring and artistic experiences for at-risk teens and young adults on site and in LA County detention centers and high schools.

Position Description

The Theatrical Marketing/Communications Intern will be an active part of a Skylight's Marketing team. Duties include: developing and executing engaging targeted communications (written, video, graphics and photo images) for the web, social media, and email; creating a digital marketing library; updating the website; tracking effectiveness and deadlines; providing basic project (clerical) support. The Intern will interact with artists, audience, and staff including: written and video interviews, front of house and box office, audience engagement events, and neighborhood businesses and theatrical partners.

Work Location: The Intern will have a dedicated desk and computer in a home office in the San Fernando Valley (separate entrance). Second worksite, the Skylight Theatre, is located at the foot of the Hollywood hills in Los Feliz Village at 1816 ½ N. Vermont Ave, LA 90027. Mileage is reimbursed for travel between locations.

As part of your internship you will interact with Skylight staff and patrons - not only learning how the theatre functions, but how marketing and communications impacts the overall business and how all the contributors -  artists, staff and patrons and current events affect all communications -- marketing, artist relations and customer experience.


The Theatrical Marketing/Communications Intern should have experience creating written, visual and/or video content for online marketing and have demonstrated writing, proofreading and research skills. Candidates with journalism, graphic design or video production experience are encouraged. The preferred candidate has an interest in theatre, is an effective communicator, is organized with strong time management skills and the ability to execute projects with minimal supervision. Dependable transportation is a must; weekends are required.
