Our Mission

Committed to telling relevant and more inclusive stories that expand the boundaries of mainstream theater, the Skylight Theatre Company discovers, develops and produces new works, introduces plays new to Los Angeles, and educates and nurtures the artists that create them.

A vibrant expanding family of artists with a passion for telling original stories that speak to today's audience, our goal is to establish Los Angeles as a center of innovation in American Theater and to develop an enthusiastic local theater-going community.

In 2011 Skylight reinvented itself as a "developmental" theatre company.

Local writers are offered a home to test and refine their work through our programs and before a live audience, giving voice to their experiences. Our play development program, INKubator, provides playwrights a place to work and be seen through a variety of programs - PlayLAB, the Play Reading Series, LAb Works, INK Workshops, SoloMojo, unAUTHORized, Underground, and The Lyric Project.

We’ve presented over 500 theatre productions, many award winning and played host to musicians, poets, actors and dancers.

Hundreds of playwrights (notable and new) have worked here. A few of the actors and directors that have shared their talents include: George Clooney, James Cromwell, Damian Cruden, Richard Dreyfuss, Jenna Elfman, John Fleck, Tovah Feldshuh, Miguel Ferrer, Jorge Garcia, John Glover, Beth Grant, Roxanne Hart, Helen Hunt, Gregory Itzen, Salome Jenns, Sharon Lawrence, Justina Machado, Mary McDonnell, Gene Reynolds, Doris Roberts, Thomas Sadoski, William Schallert, Cotter Smith, Ray Stricklyn, Patrick Swayze, Jeffrey Tambor and Robert Walden.
